Dr. Komal Kapoor

Dr. Komal Kapoor is the Chief Executive of Nuclear Fuel Complex and the Chairman of NFC Board. He is also the Director of Boards of UCIL and IREL.
Dr. Kapoor is an Outstanding Scientist and a Metallurigcal Engineer, joined the 33rd batch of BARC Training School, Mumbai in 1989. Subsequently, he was posted to NFC and served in various capacities for more than three decades. He has obtained Doctorate degree in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai. Dr. Kapoor is an Adjunct Professor in Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), Mumbai and the Guest Faculty at the University of Hyderabad (UoH).
Dr. Kapoor was instrumental in manufacture and supply of a variety of seamless tubes for the strategic applications of DAE and that of the Departments of Space and Defence. These include Incoloy 800 SG tubes for 700 MWe PHWRs, 9Cr- 1Mo SG tubes for PFBR, D9 cladding tubes for the first and second cores of PFBR, Ti- alloy tubes, Ni-alloy tubes, Al-Mg alloy tubes for BrahMos, advanced fuel double clad tubes for LMFBRS and AHWR, IN617 tubes for Advanced Ultra Super Critical Boilers. The contributions of Dr. Kapoor have lead to the highest ever annual productions of Zr-4 fuel tubes, extrusions in wide variety of materials, development and implementation of forging route for Zr-4 components etc.
Dr. Kapoor has been the recipient of many Honours and several prestigious Awards viz., Young Metallurgist Award from the Ministry of Steel, Govt. of India; DAE Excellence Awards in Science & Technology etc. He has to his credit over 100 Publications in National/International Journals of repute and Symposia. He also co- authored the Technical Documents of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA- TECDOCS).
Dr. Kapoor is the Life Member of the Indian Nuclear Society (INS), Indian Society for Non-destructive Testing (ISNT) and Indian Institute of Metals (IIM).
